The Hunger Games. The Long Walk. Battle Royale.
WHICH ONE OF THESE ARE YOUR FAVOURITE?!
All of them have one thing in common which I bet you don’t
know. They are all somehow related without you noticing it. Don’t worry… It’s
not related to Katniss Everdeen or Finnick Odair sacrificed during the recent
Mockingjay (part 2)… Oopss.. Spoiler alert..
All of the above are dystopias which (in brief) means an
imaginary place where people are unhappy and usually afraid because they are
not treated fairly. Why do I say that? For instance, the story of hunger games
takes place in Panem, whereby children of the age range of 12-18 must take part
in the Hunger Games, an annual event that is broadcasted live over the whole of
Panem. The “participants” a.k.a “tributes” are brought to a place to fight for
their lives. The game stops when there is only one survivor left. Hence, the
tributes have to fight it out to death to be crowned the winner of slaughter.
The Long Walk is a dystopian novel written by Stephen King
under the pseudonym of Richard Bachman. The Walk has almost the same theory as
the hunger games but it involves a hundred kids walking on a track on a fixed
speed. If you go slower or faster than the fixed speed… Well, you get ticketed.
By ticketed I mean you simply just die. If you get try ti run away from the
track, you die. At the end of the day, the protagonist lives.
Battle royale is a Japanese movie that came out in 1998 that
shows a setting of a future japan that is ruled by an authoritarian. A group of
kids is forced to fight each other until one sole survivor is found but what
disturbs me is how the one in charge was shot numerous times by a student and
was not dead yet ! Like… Come on, you get shot in the heart you die, but no. In
this movie, the one in charge gets up shooting some other guys first, have a
last bite of a cookie and there’s still time left to smoke. To me.. This just doesn’t
make any sense.
So which is the best dystopian?
From what I see, the hunger games series takes a lead on this
in terms of the storyline. The other two dystopias have one sole purpose of actually
surviving the nightmare, but for the hunger games series the excitement doesn’t
just stop there when the sparks fly and the antagonist dies just like that. The
hunger games has a little more romance , friendship and a touch of controversy
that make the fans cry over the handsome man Finnick Odair. The hunger games
also won an award for the best soundtrack. Do you see the other two winning
awards? Nope I certainly do not see them winning anything. To me it’s the end
result that counts, if you are good like the hunger games. You win. If you aren’t,
well you lose. It just means that the movie/book is not up to par with the one
that won.
Who else thinks like me and seconds my opinion? Don’t agree
with what I said? Tell me I would want to know your side of the story.
